A Utah Concealed Carry Class Should Be Part Of Your Firearm Purchase

Recently, while attending a Utah concealed carry class, I learned of an interesting phenomenon that is sweeping across the United States right now. Gun sales and gun class enrollment have spiked dramatically since President Obama was elected into office. Many people believe that President Obama is anti-gun and will begin to push for gun control laws which will restrict citizens' ability to obtain a firearm. If it is true that the President is anti-gun, I'm sure that he would be distressed to find that his presence in the Oval Office has lead to increased demand for guns.

After thinking about the economics of the gun market, these recent trends seem fitting, but at first I was very surprised. Observing the media, one would assume that the anti-gun movement would curtail the market. But I was surprised even further to learn from the Utah concealed carry class that since 1986 most states have made laws that make guns more accessible than they were previous to that time. Besides Illinois, Wisconsin is the only other state that has outlawed concealed weapons. Thirty-eight (thirty-nine in 2011) of our states now have laws in place that allow guns to be purchased by anybody that meets the stated criteria. Even more lenient are Arizona, Alaska and Vermont who allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit.

These recent trends are positive in some respects, but the instructors of the Utah concealed carry class expressed a few concerns. First of all, the increase in gun sales may be the result of a fearful reaction. What we may see is an increased number of people that don't have sufficient time to dedicate to a newly acquired gun hobby with guns sitting in their houses. Please don't become an example of the above scenario! If you own a gun, make time to become familiar with it and with the most safety practices that will be most beneficial to you. If you have children, also make sure that they are properly educated regarding safety rules and their respective purposes.

Kids are very good at forming their own fanciful ideas about how the world works, but that doesn't mean that guiding their minds is difficult. Obviously, a Utah concealed carry class is a bit beyond their comprehension level, but you have other options when it comes to education. Many gun stores and non-profit organizations offer classes for children and encourage enrollment as a form of safety. With that said, it is important to reiterate that the responsibility of educating children about the dangers, uses and proper use of a gun rests solely on the parent. Enrolling a child in a class does not excuse any mother or father from proper in-home instruction.

This country protects a person's right to bear arm with a great deal of zeal and with good reason. If we are to be a free people, we must be allowed to protect ourselves from all enemies, foreign and domestic, because freedom is so easy to steal from an unprotected person. At the same time, however, it is important to understand that simply owning a gun does not protect you. A Utah concealed weapons permit class can help you understand the safest and most effective uses of a firearm.
