One of the things, which is a must for people who have a keen interest in hunting is a hunting knife. Fixed blade knives were commonly used for hunting, but over time they are getting replaced by foldable hunting knives. The convenience that these hunting knives offer, have made them more desired than the fixed blade knives.
Folding hunting knives are of two types i.e. traditional pocket knives and lock back pocket knives. Lock back hunting knives have a blade locking mechanism which helps in avoiding unwanted flip of the blade. Traditional pocket knives are the ones which are very compact and can be carried easily.
Benefits and the Drawbacks - One of the major benefits of the folding hunting knife is that the blade can be folded into the handle. This helps in carrying safely, since the chances of getting injured while carrying is reduced. The folding hunting knife is also compact when they are folded and hence can be carried easily. The chances, that the blades may get damaged while being carried is also very low.
The folding hunting knives are provided with the studs, with which the user can just open the knife with a thumb. Hence, there is no necessity of using the other hand for opening the knife. This is of extreme use at times when only one hand can be used for opening the knife. But, the major disadvantage of the folding hunting knife is that they lack the strength that the fixed blade knives have and hence cannot be used for some purposes like skinning of large animals.
Not Just For Hunting - The use of folding hunting knives is not just limited to hunting. They are used for various other purposes like cutting tree branches, ropes, trimming crops, etc. These knives are also extensively used by the fishermen for cleaning the fish and cutting the fish line.
Blades for Different Purposes - Some of the knives are made of multiple blades, each of which needs to be used for a different purpose. The different types of blades used are clip point which is used basically for insertion, drop point which is used for grip while cutting and skinning blades which is used for skinning the animals.
There are different shapes, models and sizes of folding hunting knives available. There are also knives with special features for use in specific tasks. Before purchasing any folding knife, one should always consider what purpose the knife will serve.
