Wing Chun And Jeet Kune Do

The martial art experience of Bruce Lee went through 5 different stages throughout his short life. These five stages are related to 5 places, Hong Kong, Seattle, Auckland, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.
Throughout the places he lived, Hong Kong is definitely the place that gave Lee the most impact. He started learning marital arts in Hong Kong. Among all the disciplines he learned, Wing Chun is the most important one and gave a lot of inspiration to Jeet Kune Do.
Although Bruce Lee had most of his properties in the America, including his wife and kids, his Jeet Kune Do school and many of his writings, Hong Kong is most important place in his life. We all now the great movie star was from Hong Kong. Even now, you can see bronze statue in Tsim Sha Tsui of Hong Kong.
Bruce Lee has made a way for free style martial art. In the his theory of Jeet Kune Do, three important martial arts gave him inspirations and all of them were learned in Hong Kong. The forming of the whole Jeet Kune Do Philosophy were happened in Hong Kong. Even the only fight between Jeet Kune Do and Wing Chun happened in Hong Kong.
Wing Chun is a traditional Chinese Kung Fu but it is very different from other styles. Wing Chun focus on attacking and defending at the same time, taking the centerline and Sun Thrusting fist. These are also taught in Jeet Kune Do. Base on this, Jeet Kune Do added other elements and make it more aggressive at flexible.
Bruce's Wing Chun teacher, Yip Man was very liberal in martial art. He made his own style of Wing Chun with traditional heritage and creative theories. After 22 years of evolution and development, it has flourished in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and all over the world.
