- The thing that's important for me is to remember what's the most important thing. St. Louis February 2, 2001
- I thought an interesting comment was made when somebody said to me, I heard somebody say, where's Mandela? Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas. White House Press Conference (September 20, 2007)
- A submarine could take this place out. While surveying the Arkansas River by the Clinton Presidential Center, quoted by the Guardian, Little Rock, Arkansas, November 18, 2004.
- Dick Cheney and I do not want this nation to be in a recession. We want anybody who can find work to be able to find work. 60 Minutes II, December 5, 2000
President George W. Bush has let the nation through some of the most important times in memory. So, naturally, some of the statements that he got right are also memorable. These are some good examples:
- This war is more than a clash of arms -- it is a decisive ideological struggle, and the security of our nation is in the balance. To prevail, we must remove the conditions that inspire blind hatred, and drove 19 men to get onto airplanes and to come and kill us. What every terrorist fears most is human freedom
-- societies where men and women make their own choices, answer to their own conscience, and live by their hopes instead of their resentments. Free people are not drawn to violent and malignant ideologies -- and most will choose a better way when they're given a chance. So we advance our own security interests by helping moderates and reformers and brave voices for democracy. The great question of our day is whether America will help men and women in the Middle East to build free societies and share in the rights of all humanity. And I say, for the sake of our own security, we must.
- America is leading the fight against disease. With your help, we're working to cut by half the number of malaria-related deaths in 15 African nations. And our Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief is treating 1.4 million people. We can bring healing and hope to many more. So I ask you to maintain the principles that have changed behavior and made this program a success. And I call on you to double our initial commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS by approving an additional $30 billion over the next five years.
- North Korea is a regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens.
- To build a future of energy security, we must trust in the creative genius of American researchers and entrepreneurs and empower them to pioneer a new generation of clean energy technology.
So, whether you love him, hate him or just don't care, what he has said is worth the read.
