College Campus Safety

When I started my freshman year in South Dakota, I was very concerned with college campus safety. My whole family lived in a different state and this would be my first time living away from home.
In one of the orientations, we were taught about keeping some personal security tools with us at all times, especially those with classes late at night. The speaker said that is wasn't uncommon that students from outside the state would be taken advantage of.
When I got back to my dorm, I called up my dad and relayed the speaker's message. He said that he was in complete agreement and arranged to get me some pepper spray or maybe a stun gun.
I did more research online on personal security tools. There were lots of products specifically aimed at college campus safety and I picked a personal alarm for my self. I thought of the many ways it could protect me without harming anyone else accidentally or otherwise.
After it arrived, I started carrying it with me wherever I went. I felt more secure walking back to my dorm after hours. It wasn't long before I was telling my new friends about minding after college campus safety since we were all vulnerable.
Some weeks into the second semester, I saw someone about to get mugged. I saw a security guard a ways off but wasn't sure I could get to him in time to prevent the robbery about to take place.
I reacted by activating my personal alarm. This sidetracked the robbers and called the security guard to the scene.
The victim expressed her gratitude and curiosity about my personal alarm. I told her everything I knew about personal security tools as we strolled towards the girls' dorms. I was glad I was able to keep college campus safety in that instance.
