Explaining The Various Types Of Alarm Systems

In the modern world security is a major issue. Individuals and companies alike are constantly seeking out new ways in which security can be improved upon. False alarms have also increased because of the increase of alarm systems, this is something which is not wanted. Technology has meant that these systems have become more and more advanced and harder for intruders to bypass.

These systems can have many different ways in which they alert people to an intruder in a premises. Many different ways of initially detecting an intruder are also available. Systems will often have different purposes and be in use for differing circumstances, this makes choosing the right system a tough task.

The most seen alarm system is the system which uses a physical device to alert people of an intruder. This need not be just a loud bell but can also include things such as a strobe light or high frequency alarm. Smoke screens and doors that deadlock are also common place in order to physically deter an intruder; often these are seen in places such as banks.

Some alarms are monitored remotely by an external system. This may be the police directly but is more likely to be an alarm monitoring agency. These agencies will contact the person in charge of the premise informing them of the alarm being activated; this allows the premises to be checked for false alarms. Obviously high security premises such as banks will have a direct line to the police.

Usually a digital pad of numbers is used to activate and deactivate the alarms. A code is entered by a user to turn the system off or on, and there is also sometimes the option available to only turn on the alarm in a specific location or zone within a building. Finger print biometric scanner are also able to be used if a higher level of security is needed, such as in a bank vault.

The most common form of detection comes in the form of magnetic doors. A magnetic connection between the door and the frame trips the alarm when the door is opened and the connection is broken. This is often supplemented by motion detectors, these can either use lasers to detect motion or more commonly detect the infra red heat given off by a body.

Sound sensors and pads which detect pressure are often also used in higher security set ups. More advanced forms of motion detectors are also available and these can reduce false alarms as they can tell the difference between a genuine intruder and say an insect flying by or an animal walking through a building.

The combinations of these devices will differ in alarm systems depending on how secure they need to be and what there purpose is. Advertising the presence of a system as well as making it visible is often the best deterrent to unwanted intruders. These systems have only gotten better and harder to crack with the rise of technology. These systems can be flexible as well, allowing for different parts of a system to be alarmed while other locations are in use.
